Pink Lake Hillier
Pink Lake Hillier is a natural phenomenon located in Middle Island, in the south coast of Western Australia. It is known for its pink color. It is a saline lake or salt lake and its surface area is approximately 15 ha, it is 600 x 250m.
Why can it achieve this pink color? Well, the pink lake get its color from microorganisms called Dunaliella salina which causes the salt content in the lake to produce a red dye. Despite the high salt content levels in Lake Hillier is safe to swim in.
